Could a revival of The Cheetah Girls be on the horizon? At least two of the stars of the Disney Channel franchise are open to reprising their roles.
Entertainment Tonight recently caught up with both Raven-Symoné and Adrienne Bailon. At the Disney Channel Fan Fest, the outlet showed Raven a video of Adrienne talking about The Cheetah Girls and if she’d be open to playing her character, Chanel again. “Absolutely, I’m Chuchie for life,” said Bailon, who is now one of the hosts of the successful daytime talk show, The Real. “Love Raven to death. It’s literally Chuchie and Bubbles for life, in real life…We’ve had conversations about how crazy that would be if ever we did another Cheetahlicious project.”
In reacting to Bailon’s interview, Raven said, “If something ever did happen, that would be amazing. But, her and I’s path, we’re on the same thing, we want to make sure we’re growing our careers further, diving into different areas. Maybe it could happen one day. I started directing, she’s doing what she’s doing so there’s a lot more thing[s] to do in the future.”
The Cheetah Girls was a hugely successful franchise for Disney Channel, resulting in three films from 2003-2008. It starred Symone, Bailon, Sabrina Bryan, and Bailon’s former 3LW bandmate Kiely Williams as four friends on the quest for music stardom. The Debra Martin Chase-produced films also starred Lynn Whitfield. Whitney Houston executive produced the first film.
After the release of the first film, a television series was set for ABC, based on the original film. The quad shot a pilot for the series in Atlanta while recording music with Jermaine Dupri, and was looking to add Jessica Benson, who joined 3LW after the departure of Naturi Naughton, into the mix somehow. The pilot did not move forward.
Fast forward a few years and a second film, The Cheetah Girls 2, was released. It remains one of Disney Channel’s most-viewed original movies, almost 13 years later. Raven-Symoné did not appear in the third film, The Cheetah Girls: One World.
The soundtrack from the first film went double platinum and the soundtrack of the second film was certified platinum by the RIAA. With the soundtrack music, The Cheetah Girls went on two successful arena tours.
A short-lived The Cheetah Girls music group, not-affiliated directly with the films, with Bailon, Bryan and Williams put out an album in 2007.
