Season 2 of Ava DuVernay’s OWN romance anthology series, Cherish the Day, has cast its two new leads. Joy Bryant and Henry Simmons are taking over for Alano Miller and Xosha Roquemore, who starred in season 1. Production will begin this month in New Orleans and the new season is expected to debut in 2022.
Cherish the Day is an anthology series that chronicles the relationship of one couple, with each episode spanning a single day.
Season 2 will tell the love story of Ellis (Henry Simmons) and Sunday (Joy Bryant), “who fell in love in high school but find themselves reunited in beautiful New Orleans. Ellis is a former basketball player who is now a single father of two, and Sunday is a vegan celebrity chef on the cusp of fame. Each episode of the season-long narrative unfolds in a single day to reveal significant moments in a relationship that compel us to hold true to the ones we love, from the extraordinary to the everyday.”
Bryant, most known for her role in the long-running drama series Parenthood, recently starred in ABC’s For Life. Simmons recently starred in Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 1 of Cherish the Day also starred the late, iconic Cicely Tyson.
The series is produced for OWN by ARRAY Filmworks and Harpo Films in association with Warner Bros. Television. DuVernay, Paul Garnes, Raynelle Swilling, Teri Schaffer, and Oprah Winfrey serve as executive producers. Swilling and Schaffer are co-showrunners of season two.
