Agents Lee and Carter are about to be back on the case!

Chris Tucker revealed in a recent interview on The Ringer’s Winging It podcast that Rush Hour 4 is inching closer and closer to pre-production.

“It’s not in pre-production, we’re working on a few things on the script right now,” he said, adding that he believed the film was dependent on if Tucker and Jackie Chan wanted to come back. “…Jackie wants to do it, I want to do it, the studio wants to do it…we’re trying to get it together…I was down as long as it looked like it was coming together right, and it looks like it’s coming together right…We want to make this one the best one so far.”

This lines up with what producer Arthur Sarkissian told CraveOnline in 2017 at the Television Critics Association press tour. Sarkissian said the film is in “serious development,” adding that he was working on making the film “closer to how I did Rush Hour 1, more down to earth, more gritty, introduce two new characters and make it real the way the first one was.”

The film has been rumored for years and talks have only recently begun to get serious. The fact that Tucker said the film is coming together in the right way should put fans at ease about the film’s story quality, since we all know how dicey sequels can be.

The original Rush Hour came to theaters in 1998 and was a runaway hit, grossing $141,186,864 domestically and $244,386,864 worldwide. The film series spawned a short-lived CBS procedural starring Justin Hires and Jon Foo.
