Columbus Short caught everyone’s eye in his roles in the ABC drama Scandal and the film Cadillac Records. On the same token, Dame Dash has forged his path as the founder of Roc-A-Fella Records. Variety has exclusively confirmed Columbus Short’s production company, Great Picture Show, is teaming up with Dame Dash Studios to develop, produce and promote film, animation and television projects.

One of their collaborations is the film Ellis D, a biopic about Major League Baseball player Dock Ellis who garnered notoriety for pitching while under the influence of LSD. Earlier last year, it was reported that Straight Outta Compton star O’Shea Jackson was attached to play Dock Ellis, set to be produced by his father’s Ice Cube’s production company, Cube Vision. The two projects, however, seem to be unrelated. Other projects on their roster include Black Dots, a story written by Short and The Famous Jett Jackson star Lee Thompson Young centering on a group of high school outcasts who take their school hostage.

“We’re excited to join forces and use our own content and platform to set new trends,” Dash told Variety. “Our partnership is backed by a mission to highlight new and honest stories that haven’t yet been told.”

First gaining fame for his roles in Scandal and Stomp the Yard, Short recently appeared in the films True to the Game and Armed. Roc-a-Fella records co-founder Dash is an EP on WeTV’s Growing Up Hip-Hop, which is in its fourth season.
