Comedy Central has rolled out a new digital docuseries, which is entitled Dark Humor. Directed by Sacha Jenkins and co-produced by Mass Appeal along with Justina Quagliata and Lauren Blassingame, Dark Humor features stand-up Black comedians as they discuss their experiences. The theme each week will vary. Topics covered include Black women in comedy, speaking out on issues, the intersection of comedy and politics, how black identity is represented within the community, as well as many other uncomfortable conversations.

Talent for the series includes Tommy Davidson, Earthquake, Eddie Griffin, Lil Rel Howery, Sinbad, Lunell as well as Greer Barnes, Nore Davis, Sonia Denis, Ayanna Dookie, Chloe Hilliard,  Josh Johnson, Damien Lemon, Ms. Pat, Open Mike Eagle, Donnell Rawlings, Rae Sanni,  and many more. Commentary from Professor of African and African American Studies and English at Harvard University, Glenda Carpio and talent producer Bob Sumner is included.

To further the conversation, Comedy Central Stand-Up has teamed up with the largest online racial justice organization, Color of Change. Color of Change helps fight racial injustice by empowering corporate and government decision-makers to create a more “humane and less hostile” environment for Black people.

Viewers have an opportunity to help the initiative through a fundraiser tool on Comedy Central’s YouTube channel.
