What are the critics saying about ‘David’?

Film critic Randy Myers from the San Jose Mercury News described David as a “timeless moral tale about standing up for what we believe and doing the best for our community.”
“It was money well spent for this entertaining family treat, even if it didn’t leave me entirely with one song in my heart,” Myers said about the film.
Richard Roeper gave the film a 3/4 on RogerEbert.com.
“We settle back and enjoy a well-produced, visually impressive, character-driven fable about the man who would be king,” Roeper wrote.
For Common Sense Media, Christie Cronan wrote, “Portraying the character known as the ‘man after God’s own heart’ on the big screen might feel like a daunting task. But this musical not only captures the heart but also the soul of who David in a film that deserves a place right next to The Prince of Egypt in the rankings of animated Bible tales. See it for the kids, but enjoy it for your own heartstring pulls.”
What is the plot of the ‘David’ movie for 2025?
The animated film tells the story of David as he battles Goliath to prove that believing in God is more powerful than physical strength. Phil Wickham stars as the voice of David, and it co-stars Brandon Engman, Asim Chaudhry, Mick Wingert, Will de Renzy-Martin and Lauren Daigle. David opened in select theaters in the U.S. on Friday.
Here’s the official description of the film from Angel Studios: From the songs of his mother’s heart to the whispers of a faithful God, David’s story begins in quiet devotion. When the giant Goliath rises to terrorize a nation, a young shepherd armed with only a sling, a few stones, and unshakable faith steps forward. Pursued by power and driven by purpose, his journey tests the limits of loyalty, love, and courage—culminating in a battle not just for a crown, but for the soul of a kingdom.
