After previously acquiring exclusive worldwide distribution rights in all media for the indie drama “Five Nights in Maine,” distribution company FilmRise has announced that the film will open theatrically in NYC and LA on August 5th.
David Oyelowo, Diane Wiest and Rosie Perez star in writer-director Maris Curran’s feature-length debut, an intimate film that explores the story of Sherwin (Oyelowo), a young man reeling from the tragic loss of his wife, who travels to rural Maine to seek answers from his estranged, cancer-stricken mother-in-law (Wiest).
“We are honored to bring this gripping, heartfelt film about grief and compassion to theaters and homes in 2016,” FilmRise CEO, Danny Fisher said previously. “We are confident the film’s human story and incredible performances from all-star actors will draw audiences in, as it did us.”
“The film explores universal themes of lost love, connection and empathy,” said Curran. “Having shared the film to enthusiastic festival audiences, I am elated that FilmRise will be releasing the film theatrically for a wider audience to discover ‘Five Nights in Maine.'”
The film, which world premiered in the “Discovery” section of the 2015 Toronto International Film Festival, is produced by Carly Hugo and Matt Parker, Oyelowo, and Curran.
Steven M. Ballerini, Walker Deibel, Glenn Rigberg, and MNM Creative’s Michael Chow and Michael Shen served as executive producers.
