On Wednesday, we reported that Living Single star Erika Alexander issued a swift response to David Schwimmer’s interview with the Guardian. The latter, who portrayed Ross Geller on Friends, did an interview with the publication in which he suggested there should be an “all-Black” or “all-Asian” reboot of the NBC sitcom.

Many, including Alexander herself, were quick to point out the irony that Friends was an all-white version of Living Single, which premiered a year earlier in 1993. Now, Schwimmer has issued a response to Alexander’s tweet.

In a letter posted to his Twitter page, Schwimmer acknowledged that Living Single came before Friends.
“I didn’t mean to imply Living Single hadn’t existed or indeed hadn’t come before Friends, which I knew it had,” he said.
Schwimmer also revealed the likeliness that the decision to greenlight Friends was based on Living Single. “It’s entirely possible that Warner Bros and NBC, encouraged by the success of Living Single, gave the Friends pilot the green light,” he continued. “I honestly don’t know, but it seems likely! If that’s the case, we are all indebted to Living Single for paving the way.”
Alexander responded soon after, giving some hints.
