Danity Kane singer Dawn Richard has been cast as the lead in writer/director Jean Claude LaMarre’s erotic-romance drama “Kinky,” joining the previously-cast Vivica A. Fox and male lead Robert Ri’Chard.
Currently in pre-production, and set to begin filming in Los Angeles later this month, “Kinky” is described as a racy African American sex drama, which is being positioned as counter programming to “50 Shades Darker,” Universal’s upcoming sequel to its 2015 hit “50 Shades Of Grey,” which is set to be released in February 2017.
Snyopsis: Set in the affluent community of Buckhead, Atlanta, the story follows Dr. Joyce Richardson, a talented, yet introverted surgeon at Sinai Hospital, who is struggling with the fact that she is still single despite all her professional successes. Joyce’s strict Christian upbringing is a constant source of internal conflict for her, and limits the men she dates. However, upon a chance encounter with handsome Investor Darrin Wethington, Joyce immediately begins a whirlwind romance with the wealthy businessman and entrepreneur. It isn’t long before Joyce begins to explore her own sexual fantasies, and convinces Darrin to join her in S&M sex. This leads them into further and further exploration into this world, which is traditionally considered taboo in the conservative and upscale black community of Buckhead.
The $3.5 million budgeted “Kinky” is being financed by Patriot Pictures, with LaMarre’s Nulite Entertainment serving as co- producers on the project.
Michael Mendelsohn, Jessie LeVostre and Eurika Pratts are producing.
Dawn Richard, who recently released a solo Dance/EDM album earlier this year saw it top the Billboard chart in its debut at #1. She also has been a frequent collaborator/songwriter with P. Diddy and his Bad Boy Label. Dawn is repped by Ben Oduro at International Talent Agency.
