ABC’s in-the-works "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." spin-off series, "Marvel’s Most Wanted," has booked Delroy Lindo in the role of Dominic Fortune.
The spin-off will follow the continued adventures of Bobbi Morse, a.k.a Mockingbird (played by Adrianne Palicki), and Lance Hunter (Nick Blood) of the original "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." series.
According to the Marvel wiki, Dominic Fortune was a hero for hire in the late 1930’s, fighting against racial discrimination against Jews at the time, and was dragged into the war himself, as a soldier fighting for the good. He fought alongside the Allies against Germany and the Nazi’s, mostly spies. He was romantically involved with a woman and fighting partner of his, named Sabbath Raven. After the war, Dominic teamed up with a band of ‘heroes’ (including Sabretooth, Namora, Kraven the Hunter and Bloodstone) whom started to call themselves the Avengers. He also started looking for his old romantic love interest, Sabbath. His searches came up with nothing, and even though he had a son, Dominic started growing older and became bitter. He would enlist the help of S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Phil Coulson in tracking down Sabbath.
Of course, that’s all in the comics. The TV series is something else entirely, and none, or little of the above will transfer. For starters, the character in the comics is white, so some colorblind casting on ABC’s part here. No word on how exactly Fortune’s story will unfold in "Marvel’s Most Wanted." All we know at this time is that he’s a globe-trotting, adventure-seeking rogue.
The character first appeared in 1975’s Marvel Preview #2, in a story written and drawn by comics legend Howard Chaykin.
"Dominic Fortune carries with him a cunning and charm but also a dangerous edge that only Delroy could bring to life," said Executive Producer/Head of Marvel Television, Jeph Loeb. "We’re thrilled to have him join the show."
Lindo is the first non-"S.H.I.E.L.D" cast member to join the spin-off.
Marvel’s Most Wanted was created and written by S.H.I.E.L.D. EPs Jeffrey Bell and Paul Zbyszewski.
