The cast for the Elizabeth Banks helmed Charlie’s Angels reboot at Sony is shaping up.
We first reported to you a few months ago that Kristen Stewart, Lupita Nyong’o and Naomi Scott were circling the project.
In the official announcement, Nyong’o is not attached, but rather British newcomer Ella Balinska. This is a true big break for the Balinska as she only has two television episodes in her credits. With Nyong’o attached to several other projects, like Jordan Peele’s Us and a remake of The Killer, there is no surprise that she may have not been able to do this.
Banks will also play Bosley, the owner of the detective agency.
The new premise has the agency as a “worldwide security and intelligence service” with teams around the planut, “focusing on the next generation of Angels.”
“Charlie’s Angels, for me, is one of the original brands to celebrate the empowered woman since its debut in the ’70s. This film honors the legacy of Charles Townsend and his agency while introducing a new era of modern and global Angels. I couldn’t be more excited to work with Kristen, Naomi and Ella to bring this chapter to fans around the world,” said Banks in a statement.
Banks also wrote the latest draft of the script.
A date has been set for the film: September 27, 2019.
