Hot off of her critically-acclaimed and BAFTA-nominated turn in the Oscar-nominated pic Judas and the Black Messiah, Dominique Fishback is in talks for the lead role opposite Anthony Ramos in the new Transformers franchise at Paramount. Steven Caple Jr. (Creed II) is the film’s director. It has a release date of June 24, 2022.
Darnell Metayer and Josh Peters were writing the film from a script initially penned by Joby Harold. As Deadline exclusively reports, “While Ramos seemed like the front-runner from the beginning, Paramount took their time meeting with a number actresses for the other lead role in the film. Ramos would also screen-test with a handful of women and in the end Fishback won over everyone involved on the project. The opportunity to work with Ramos comes full circle for the two who have been close friends for years after working together on a play all the way back in college.”
Though Fishback’s Judas and the Black Messiah co-star Daniel Kaluuya won an Oscar and LaKeith Stanfield was nominated for one, critics were especially high on Fishback’s breakthrough performance and she was universally lauded in it.
Aside from this, Fishback booked a role opposite Samuel L. Jackson in the. Apple TV+ series, The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey. She is also adapted her one-woman play, Subverted, as a special with Jamie Foxx and Datari Turner producing. Last summer, she appeared opposite Foxx in Netflix’s Project Power.
