Marvel is making history with its first Native American-led series, Echo, starring deaf Menominee and Mohican actor Alaqua Cox.

The five-episode series drops on Hulu and Disney+ Jan. 10, 2024, with the series’ availability on Hulu lasting until April 9. Echo is the first Marvel Studios series to debut the whole season at once, unlike prior shows that have come out weekly. The series is also the first Marvel series to earn a TV-MA rating.

The trailer shows Cox as Maya Lopez, the superhero who also goes by her titular codename as she takes on crime while reckoning with her family and history. According to the official description:

No bad deed goes unpunished on Jan. 10, 2024, when Marvel Studios’ “Echo” launches on Disney+ and Hulu. Check out the all-new trailer and poster revealed this morning. The five-episode streaming event spotlights Maya Lopez (Alaqua Cox) as she is pursued by Wilson Fisk’s (Vincent D’Onofrio) criminal empire. When the journey brings her home, she must confront her own family and legacy.

The series also stars Native American and First Nation actors Chaske Spencer (Lakota Sioux), Graham Greene (Oneida), Tantoo Cardinal (Cree and Métis), Kawennáhere Devery Jacobs (Mohawk), Zahn McClarnon (Hunkpapa Lakota) and Cody Lightning (Cree).

The series is directed by Sydney Freeland (Navajo) and Catriona McKenzie (Gunaikurnai). Executive producers include Fereland, Kevin Feige, Stephen Broussard, Louis D’Esposito, Brad Winderbaum, Victoria Alonso, Richie Palmer, Jason Gavin (Blackfeet) and Marion Dayre, with Jennifer L. Booth and Amy Rardin co-executive producing.
