Eddie Murphy is sounding off on having Lil Nas X perform the new, primary song featured in Netflix‘s Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F, aka Beverly Hills Cop 4.
Speaking to Murphy and the cast of the film recently, the actor told Blavity’s Shadow and Act that he was glad to have Lil Nas X and more as a part of the music for the new film.
“Yeah, that was amazing to have him and then Big Sean do music on the movie,” he said, while also commenting on how iconic the music from the original film became. “When the movie came out, we didn’t know the music was going to be received like it was. But then after it came out, and the movie was No. 1 for 14 weeks, 13 weeks, and then the album won Grammys, and it was this big, I was aware [of the impact].”
Sampling Crazy Frog’s version of the “Axel F” theme from the original film, Lil Nas X’s “Here We Go!” is set to be released this Friday.
The musician has called it “the best song of all time.”
He wrote on Instagram, “so excited to release the best song of all time this friday! also sorry I’ve been so scared with my art lately. I’m coming around to myself again. I will make you guys very proud.”
Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F, also starring Taylour Paige, Kevin Bacon, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Judge Reinhold and John Ashton, drops July 3 on Netflix.
