In a wholesome exchange between Erica Banks and Ice Spice, Banks responded to Spice’s praise of her. Banks’ hit song turned viral TikTok challenge inspired the New York rapper to release her first track.

Ice Spice has dominated headlines and reined in fans with her unique flow and delivery. Her injection into the mainstream as one of the most ambitious young lyricists of our time has served to condemn any accusations of her being a “one-hit-wonder.”

In fact, the 23-year-old shows no sign of slowing down as her stardom continues to grow, demonstrated again by her recent accomplishment in gracing the cover of Billboard‘s latest issue.

For her photo shoot with the outlet, Spice is wearing a version of her signature cinnamon hair color, sporting a variety of vibrant looks. Cheekily titled The Ice Age, the interview runs the gamut of her rapid ascent to fame to her plan for success in the future.

“It was so funny — I was already working on my first song ever that I was recording. I had already wrote little raps and sh*t before that, [but] it took me a lot to get to recording. I was halfway done with it when I did the ‘Buss It’ challenge,” Spice told Heran Mamo.

“When I saw it going so viral, I was like, ‘Damn, imagine that was my song I was twerking to.’ The next month, I put out my first song and took it from there,” Ice Spice said.

“She’s everything,” Banks tweeted in reaction to the interview, adding several heart-eyed emojis.

The Bronx-bred artist has quickly made a name for herself since the breakout success of her hit, “Munch (Feelin’ U),” in August 2022. The virality of that single alone would only skyrocket with follow-up singles “Bikini Bottom” and “In Ha Mood.”

Her first-ever project contains other star tracks such as “Gangsta Boo” featuring Lil Tjay and “Princess Diana.” She recently landed her debut collaboration in the form of “Princess Diana (Remix)” with rap legend Nicki Minaj. Along with the song, Minaj announced Spice’s partnership with her new label, Heavy On It.

Spice has gone from independent success to quickly sign with 10k Projects and Capitol Records. Shortly thereafter, the hitmaker dropped her debut EP Like..?, which will see the release of the deluxe version this summer.

The “People’s Princess” confirmed to Billboard that when it comes to the rap and hip-hop scene, she’s here to stay.

“I just want more accolades. I just want to put out more music,” Spice said.
