Essence Atkins and Demetrius Shipp Jr. are set to star in indie film Same Difference. The film, billed as a mystery/drama, also stars Terrence Jenkins and Edwina Findley, as well as Kandi Burruss, Kris D. Lofton, Affion Crockett, Olympic gymnast-turned-actress Gabby Douglas, Page Kennedy and Lew Temple.
Tthe film is billed as a mystery/drama, focusing on Atkins’ character, a woman who is told “her death is imminent by a mysterious group of people who all start dying one by one.” Upon hearing this news, Atkins’ character tries to make amends with her estranged twin sister (also Atkins) who is addicted to alcohol.
The film is written and directed by Derege Harding and executive produced by Growing Up Hip Hop creator/executive producer Datari Turner via Datari Turner Productions, along with Jenkins and Atkins. Tim Weatherspoon, Louis Steyn, TJ Steyn, Jash’d Belcher, Jamal Chilton, Phil Thornton, Damone Smith, Shaun Livingston and JP Ramzy are also listed as executive producers.
Most recently, Atkins and Jenkins have been seen in NBC’s Marlon and MTV’s Safe Word, respectively. Shipp is most notable for his role as Tupac Shakur in All Eyez On Me. As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, Turner’s latest film, A Boy A Girl A Dream, starring Omari Harwick, Meagan Good and Jay Ellis, has debuted at Sundance.
