Eve is going to take some time off from hit ABC nighttime drama Queens.
According to Deadline, Eve will go on maternity leave to prepare for the birth of her first child next February. She announced her pregnancy to the public in October.
The maternity leave will allow Eve to stay in the UK, where she has been living, instead of having to travel between the UK and Atlanta to film Queens. She will film additional scenes before she goes on leave, meaning fans won’t notice a lapse in Eve’s character Brianna during the first season. Deadline also reports that Brianna’s story has been specifically written in an open-ended way so Eve can return if Queens gets renewed.
Queens earned an astounding 100 percent fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. This rating also achieved by P-Valley during its first season, with Starz head of originals, Christina Davis, calling the series 2020’s “newest must-see television series as critics and audiences alike are taken up by the authentic and compelling characters that make [strip club] the Pynk come alive.”
With Eve, the show stars Brandy, Naturi Naughton and Nadine Velazquez as a girl group who achieved fame in the 1990s and reunite to make a comeback. According to the official description: “Estranged and out-of-touch, four women in their 40s reunite for a chance to recapture their fame and regain the swagger they had as the Nasty Bitches – their ’90s group that made them legends in the hip-hop world.”
The series also stars Taylor Selé and Pepi Sonuga. Zahir McGhee, Sabrina Wind and TIm Story executive produce, with the pilot written by McGhee and directed by Story.
