With all the waves Jaleel White has been making with his return to television as a character in Me, Myself & I, the time is ripe for a Family Matters reunion.
As a part of their ‘Cast Reunions’ series, Entertainment Weekly reunited the cast, TV dad and mom Reginald VelJohnson (Carl) and Jo Marie Payton (Hariette) with the rest of the Winslow-Crawford clan Kellie Shanygne Williams (Laura), Darius McCrary (Eddie), Telma Hopkins (Rachel), Bryton James (Richie) — and friends, the infamous White as Urkel and Shawn Harrison (Waldo). The late Rosetta LeNoire, who portrayed Mother Winslow, was honored at the shoot as well.
“It just feels so natural and so normal. It’s like we haven’t been apart all these years,” said Hopkins.
VelJohnson said, “I love these people… Every one of them. I didn’t realize I was going to see everybody. … To see them now, the way they are, is wonderful. It’s heartwarming. It makes me cry.”
On a potential reboot of the show, all of them seem to be down for one!
“Jaleel and I were talking just a little while ago and he said, ‘You know, we can do this.’ And I said, ‘If they dropped a script at our feet when we walked out of here, we would come back in tomorrow, and the next day we’d have a show shot,” said Payton, noting that everyone is “ready.”
She said that a revival should start Judy (the daughter written off the show after Season 4, portrayed by Jaimee Foxworth) should come down the steps and everyone asking her where she’s been.
“And we haven’t lost it. As soon as we’re together, it’s back to normal. There’s just something really magical about this cast and the real feelings that are here. It wasn’t just for the screen. Family really did matter and still does,” said Hopkins.
