“From Nowhere”

In Matthew Newton’s award-winning SXSW Narrative Spotlight audience award-winner, “From Nowhere,” 3 undocumented teenagers – a Dominican girl, an African boy and a Peruvian girl – are about to graduate high school in the Bronx, while working with a teacher and a lawyer to try to get their papers to stay in the USA. Forced to grow up prematurely and navigate problems most adults don’t even have to face, they’re really just American teenagers who want to be with their friends, fall in love, and push back against authority.

Announced this week, indie Film distributor, FilmRise (an acquisition and distribution company headed by producer/financiers Danny Fisher, Jack Fisher and Alan Klingenstein), has picked up North American rights to Newton’s film, which he directed from a screenplay he wrote with Kate Ballen.

It is Newton’s 3rd feature film.

FilmRise struck the deal with Ryan Kampe of Visit Films, with a winter 2017 theatrical release eyed.
