Why has Denzel Washington never done a sequel before The Equalizer 2?

“People keep talking about it, but it’s not that big a deal Is there a curse for doing sequels?” he said on the red carpet.

But Washington says the real reason is — he’s only been asked about a sequel a few times.

“I haven’t been asked. The only time I’ve been asked was for Safe House, but that didn’t make sense because my character had died, so they were talking about a prequel. And I was asked for Inside Man. But this one just made sense.”

He also since his familiarity and relationship with director Antoine Fuqua, The Equalizer 2 didn’t feel like a sequel.
