
The 20th Annual Urbanworld Film Festival (www.urbanworld.org), presented by REVOLT with founding sponsor HBO, has confirmed an exclusive first look at BET’s “The New Edition Story,” set for Saturday, September 24, 2016 at 9:00 p.m. at AMC Empire 25 on 234 West 42nd Street.
“The New Edition Story” is a three part miniseries event that follows the iconic group from their humble beginnings as kids in Boston to global megastardom – weathering the highs and lows of controversy, personnel changes and the ultimate cost of fame. Bryshere Y. Gray, Elijah Kelley, Luke James, Keith Powers, Algee Smith and Woody McClain star in the project. The miniseries is executive produced by Jesse Collins and directed by Chris Robinson. It will air on BET in January 2017.
Following the exclusive look at clips from the film will be a Q&A with New Edition’s Ricky Bell, Michael Bivins and Ronnie DeVoe, as well as filmmakers Collins and Robinson along with some of the film’s stars McClain (Brown in the film), Kelley (Bell in the film), Gray (Bivins in the film), Powers (DeVoe in the film) and James (Gill in the film).
Also confirmed for the festival this year, Fox’s upcoming new dramatic series “Shots Fired” starring Sanaa Lathan and Stephan James will screen on Saturday, September 24, 2016 at 7:30 p.m. Director Jonathan Demme will moderate a Q&A with showrunners Gina Prince-Bythewood and Reggie Rock Bythewood, and stars including Lathan, James and Tristan Mack Wilds.
And HBO’s highly anticipated “Insecure” created by Issa Rae has been added to the Urbanworld Festival lineup, screening an episode directed by Melina Matsoukas on Friday, September 23, 2016 at 8:00 p.m. A Q&A with Rae, Jay Ellis and Matsoukas, moderated by Bevy Smith, will follow.
