ABC has officially ordered For Life to series. This doesn’t come as a surprise as the trades reported that it was highly favored within the network during the bulk of the pilot season. The pilot for the series was directed by George Tillman Jr.

The logline: A drama inspired by the true story of Isaac Wright, Jr., once wrongfully convicted as the kingpin behind one of the largest drug distribution networks in New Jersey, who now practices law in the same courtroom where he was sentenced to life behind bars.

Led by Nicholas Pinnock, the series also stars Boris McGiver, Dorian Missick, Glenn Fleshler, Indira Varma, Joy Bryant, Mary Stuart Masterson and Tyla Harris as Jasmine.

Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson executive produces with Tillman, Alison Greenspan, Doug Robinson and series creator Hank Steinberg. Isaac Wright Jr. is also an EP. The series is from ABC Studios, Doug Robinson Productions, G-Unit Film & Television and Sony Pictures Television.

Wright became the first person in U.S. history to receive a life prison sentence and self-exonerate his case to gain his release and be granted a license to practice law from the same court that convicted him. He was able to secure his own release after cross-examining police detective James Dugan. The testimony resulted in layers upon layers of cover-up and lies to wrongly convict Wright and keep him in jail.

50 Cent initially announced he was developing a project on Wright back in 2017.

For Life is expected to be ABC’s last series order, along with the Christina Vidal-led United We Fall (which got a series order) and the Donald Faison co-starring Emergence, which hopped from NBC to its studio home, ABC. The weekend’s bloodbath at ABC saw series like Whiskey Cavalier and Speechless canceled.
