A movie musical inspired by the life of multi-Grammy winner Pharrell Williams, is currently in development at Fox, with Broadway helmer and Tony Award winner Michael Mayer attached to direct.

Titled “Atlantis,” the project is described as “a Romeo and Juliet style story (with a music element) inspired by Williams’ childhood in Virginia Beach.”

Mayer, known for his Broadway work on such Broadway musicals as “Hedwig and the Angry Inch,” “Spring Awakening” and more, will direct from a script by “Toy Story” writer Martin Hynes.

Williams is involved in the project, serving as producer alongside Mimi Valdes via their I Am Other production company; Gil Netter is also producing for Netter films.

Williams most recently co-produced another Fox film – “Hidden Figures” – in addition to writing songs for the Oscar nominated blockbuster, and supervised the soundtrack.

Upcoming, he’s also producer on the 2017 Sundance Film Festival selection “Roxanne Roxanne.”
