Actress Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are already getting the Lifetime TV movie treatment, and now Fox has ordered a documentary on Markle that will air right before the royal wedding.
Fox has ordered the documentary special from UK production company, Spun Gold, which has produced several royal specials, including The Royal House of Windsor, The Queen’s 90th Birthday Celebration and When Ant & Dec Met The Prince.
The special will air on May 11, ahead of the wedding on May 19.
“Since the early days of the British monarchy, right up to the present, the royal family has captivated the minds and imaginations of people across the globe,” said Wade. “With Meghan Markle on the cusp of becoming a real princess, joining the likes of Princess Kate and the late Princess Diana, this special will give viewers a unique look and insight into her journey, from her upbringing in Southern California to her wedding to Prince Harry in Windsor Castle,” Rob Wade, who is president of alternative entertainment and specials at Fox.
“American Princess will provide viewers with the definitive, inside story of the most talked about wedding of the year, packed with exclusive insights into how Meghan and the world’s most famous family will change each other’s lives, from friends, family and royal experts and insiders. We are thrilled to be expanding Spun Gold into the US with such a major, high profile commission from Fox. With more shows in production and development for US broadcasters alongside our expanding UK slate, 2018 looks like being a year of significant opportunity and growth for the company,” said Daniela Neumann, MD of Spun Gold.
