Disney is preparing a takeover, and they want to battle Netflix.

As you may know, Disney is prepping their own streaming service and have snatched all of their movies from Netflix.

Now on Thursday, according to a WSJ report, all of their future Marvel shows will go solely to their streaming service, which means no more Marvel shows on Netflix. They are developing a new show based on an undisclosed Marvel property in time from the streaming service’s 2019 launch.

We are not sure yet if Marvel’s current Netflix shows, including Luke Cage and Jessica Jones, will continue their runs on Netflix or will move to the streaming service after their upcoming seasons. They very well could make the jump.

Something else that is up in the air is the status of the Marvel shows on other networks/platforms — Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D on ABC, and the upcoming shows Cloak & Dagger on Freeform and Runaways on Hulu. Would they remain on their networks, or jump as well? Another upcoming Marvel series, New Warriors was set to air on Freeform, but was pulled from the network to shop elsewhere. Reports said it was due to Freeform not having room on the schedule this season, but could it have ultimately been because Disney wants to house the properties on their streaming service?

Another plot twist is that the news about Disney potentially buying 21st Century Fox (and completing the Marvel universe) was driven by their attempt to compete with Netflix. Those talks have stalled, however. So of course, none of the news impacts properties like Fox’s The Gifted….not right now at least.

Aside from Marvel, it was also announced that a Star Wars television series, and a TV series from the High School Musical franchise are among projects being developed for the streaming service.

Also on Thursday, it was announced a new Star Wars trilogy film was being developed.

CEO Bob Iger said that the Disney streaming service would be “substantially cheaper” than Netflix.
