FX has announced they are developing a television adaptation of Victor LaValle’s 2017 novel, The Changeling, from Annapurna Television.

Indie studio Annapurna is ramping up their television slate, having the Fox musical drama pilot Mixtape, which the network passed on but its shopping around. Annapurna first acquired the rights to The Changeling in 2017.

Here’s a description of The Changeling, as reported by THR who exclusively broke the news: The Changeling is described as a fairy tale for grown-ups. Set in a New York no one knew existed, the drama focuses on the death-defying odyssey of Apollo Kagwa and Emma Valentine as they look to find out what happened to the son who was removed from them. On their voyage, they will travel through enchanted isles and haunted woodlands, meet glowing witches, demon giants and racist cops. They’ll deal with the perils of personal technology and social media, toxic masculinity, the mental health of new mothers and fathers, and find out if surviving a fairy tale is as brutal as simply surviving in Trumplandia.

Kelly Marcel is writing the script.

Other books LaValle has penned include The Ecstatic, Big Machine and The Devil in Silver.
