ABC is developing a new single-camera comedy from LeBron James’ SpringHill Entertainment, Gabrielle Union and filmmaker David E. Talbert. —
Written by Talbert (who was behind Almost Christmas and First Sunday) based on his real-life experiences, “White Dave is about a young African-American teenager, who has grown up in an all-white suburb, suddenly moves to an all-black neighborhood when his mom remarries.”
Talbert, James, Carter and Union are executive producing for Warner Bros. TV through SpringHill’s Warner Bros. deal.
This is yet another project for SpringHill, as they are producing a Madame C.J. Walker miniseries for Netflix starring Octavia Spencer, as well as a sneaker culture comedy at Starz. James/SpringHill’s first foray into television, Survivor’s Remorse, was just canceled by Starz.
Union will wrap up Being Mary Jane on BET with a TV movie in 2018. She’s also starring in two upcoming films, The Public and Breaking In.
