Emilia Clarke is worried about how one person feels about her Game of Thrones character Daenerys Targaryen: Queen Bey.
In an interview with The New Yorker, Clarke talked about attending an Oscars after-party hosted by Beyoncé and Jay Z and while there, Beyoncé told Clarke about her love for the Mother of Dragons. At that point, Clarke already knew how her character would turn out after the final season, which, as we now know, includes Daenerys killing an entire town with dragon fire, only to meet her end at the hands of Jon Snow (Kit Harington). With that knowledge embedded in her mind, she hoped Beyoncé would still like her character after her villainous turn.
“All I wanted to scream was ‘Please, please still like me even though my character turns into a mass-killing dictator!” said Clarke. “‘Please still think that I’m representing women in a really fabulous way.'”
While we might not ever know how Beyoncé feels about Daenerys’ turn, Clarke needs to worry about the Beyoncé of drag, Shangela. The RuPaul’s Drag Race alum and Game of Thrones superfan repped the Mother of Dragons during her All Stars 3 run. After the Season 8 finale, she released this Instagram video that shows she’s far from happy with how things turned out, so much so that she compared it to her being blocked from winning the All Stars 3 crown even though she had the better all-around performance versus the queen who was crowned winner, Trixie Mattel.
