No stranger to television, actress Tisha Campbell-Martin has notched another role under her belt. The former Martin actress is slated to play a leading role on Genuises, a multi-camera comedy at ABC. If ordered to series, this will mark Campbell-Martin’s first high-profile, series regular role since she played Damona Watkins in the ABC comedy Dr. Ken.
Starring Maggie Lawson and Jason Biggs, the series “is about Cay (Lawson) and Mike (Biggs), a blue-collar couple in South Jersey trying to get by while raising four kids, three of whom just happen to be certified geniuses.” Geniuses is written and executive produced by Lon Zimmet, and Jonathan Judge will direct the pilot.
Campbell-Martin is set to portray Rita, a close friend of Cay who happens to be a mother of three. Campbell-Martin is best known for her roles as Gina Waters-Payne on the ‘90s Fox sitcom Martin and Janet “Jay” Marie Johnson-Kyle on the ABC comedy My Wife and Kids. The pilot brings her back to ABC for a second consecutive pilot season, where she was set to lead The Finest, produced by Regina King and Robin Roberts. It did not receive a series order.
Deadline first reported this casting.
