Memphis artist, GloRilla is in the middle of a wrongful sampling suit for her latest hit, “Tomorrow.”
Nola-based rap group Dog House Posse member Ivory Paynes alleges GloRilla and her producer Macaroni Toni sampled his nearly 30-year-old track in her song “Tomorrow” without permission, TMZ reported.
In a statement, Paynes alleges Toni sampled “Street of the Westbank,” a song released in 1994. Payne said to have noticed the background instruments heard on “Tomorrow” used elements from his music.
Collective Music Group and her publishing representatives, Warner Chappell Music and Sony/ATV Music, are also being sued. The suit also lists the remix track featuring Cardi B as another wrongfully sampled project; Cardi B was not mentioned in Toni’s submission.
GloRilla’s team has not yet made a statement on the incident. The suit follows GloRilla’s concert in New York, where multiple concertgoers died from injuries suffered during a violent stampede after her March 5 show. Families of the victims have decided to lawyer up.
