GLOW, starring Alison Brie, Marc Maron and Betty Gilpin alongside Sydelle Noel and Kia Stevens, has been nominated for a whopping 10 Emmy awards including Best Comedy, proving that shows featuring female storylines not only reach women audiences but audiences of all genders.

Gilpin, who was nominated for Best Supporting Actress, and co-creator Carly Mensch talked to The Hollywood Reporter about the nominations.

“Thing that was so meaningful to us–aside from the nomination for the show and the nomination for Betty–was the fact that we had so many of our crew nominated,” said Mensch. “There are so many people who work their asses off on this show who come in every day with so much passion, dedication and who do so much work. I was so thrilled for the number of nominations and the level of recognition.”

“I think we’ve learned this is not a phase or a trend,” said Gilpin. “We’re going to be loud in tribute to the generations of women before us who may have been either too afraid to be loud, or were loud in a time when it wasn’t as in vogue as it is now.”

GLOW, which has its second season streaming on Netflix now, follows a group of women who go from struggling actresses to the Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling. It’s currently a waiting game to see if GLOW will be renewed for a third season.
