Tasha Smith has joined Lee Daniels and Whitney Cummings’ comedy pilot at Amazon as a series regular. She joins 2 Broke Girls creator Cummings, Lisa Kudrow, Greg Kinnear, Martin Short and Josie Totah, who are also a part of the main cast.

The pilot is written by Cummings and Daniels. Here’s the description per Deadline, who broke the news of Smith’s casting: “Good People revolves around three generations of women — played by Kudrow, Cummings and Totah — working in the ombudsman’s office of a college that navigates the current cultural climate, the concept of feminism across different generations and the struggle to reconcile socially constructed ideas with current ethical views regarding complex issues such as sex, race, class and gender.”

Smith’s character will be Shar Johnson, who is “the head of the campus health center. She and Hazel Miller (Cummings) are friends from when they went to college there. Shar is exasperated by PC culture and the focus on performative activism, instead of ‘real’ problems such as police brutality and Flint not having clean water.”

Smith’s last series regular role was on Tyler Perry’s For Better or Worse from 2011-2017. She’s also appeared in recurring stints on Power and Daniels’ Empire. She has a very acting directing career, helming the film When Love Kills: The Falicia Blakely Story, as well as episodes of Daniels’s other Fox drama, Star.
