Okieriete Onaodowan and Barrett Doss are among the crop of names announced to join the untitled, Grey’s Anatomy, fire department-centric spinoff from Shondaland.
Onaodowan and Doss, along with Danielle Savre and Grey Damon, join Jaina Lee Ortiz, who will topline the series, and Jason George, who is moving over from Grey’s Anatomy.
Shonda Rhimes will executive produce with her Shondaland partner, Betsy Beers. Paris Barclay is the show’s he producing director and an executive producer. Paris Barclay will be producing director and an executive producer.
The spinoff follows a group of heroic firefighters, from the captain to the newest recruit, as they risk their lives and their hearts both in the line of duty and off the clock. It was first picked up in May on a straight-to-series order for ABC.
Deadline confirms that the four will portray firefighters – Lieutenant Jack (Damon), Dean (Onaodowan), Maya (Savre) and Victoria (Doss).
These lead characters are expected to guest star in a Grey’s Anatomy episode this season in order to be introduced.
Both Onaodowan and Doss have Broadway backgrounds. Onaodowan originated the roles of Hercules Mulligan and James Madison in Hamilton as well as Pierre Natasha, Pierre, and the Great Comet of 1812. On the TV front, he’s appeared in Netflix’s The Get Down and HBO’s Ballers.
Doss just appeared on Broadway in Groundhog Day as Rita. TV and film wise, she just appeared in Marvel’s Iron Fist as Meagan and will also be featured in the Marshall biopic.
