The current trend of recognizing Living Single as the original Friends continues in this exclusive clip from this week’s episode of grown-ish.

The episode, “Ain’t Nothing Like the Real Thing,” Aaron (Trevor Jackson) is getting counseled by his friend Doug (Diggy Simmons) about his lack of processing his breakup with Zoey (Yara Shahidi). In the clip, Doug jokes that he assumed his friend would be knee-deep in Living Single episodes, to which Aaron remarks how it was “the Friends before Friends.”

There’s more counseling happening this week, as Zaara (Tara Raani) gets frustrated with her Junior (Marcus Scribner) treats her more like a therapist. Meanwhile, Annika (Justine Skye) and Kiela (Daniella Perkins) are shocked when they realize just how much fun the sober dorms can be, particularly with house speaker Nicholas (Luke Eisner in a guest-starring role).

The sixth and final season of grown-ish follows Junior’s time at college as he makes his own path outside of his older sister Zoey’s shadow. The series is produced by Kenya Barris and ABC Signature, with Craig Doyle, Shahidi, Anthony Anderson, Laurence Fishburne, Helen Sugland, E. Brian Dobbins and Michael Petok serving as executive producers. Doyle also serves as showrunner for the sixth season. The sixth season is airing in two parts, with 6A airing this year and 6B airing in 2024.
