Halle Bailey regularly shares behind-the-scenes of her creative process regarding music. The Little Mermaid actor took to social media to share a cover of Billie Eilish’s “What Was I Made For?” on Wednesday.
In a video, Bailey displays her silky smooth vocals with an echo effect, adding to her ethereal and mermaid-like rendition.
“I love this song and this echo filter a little too much 😭,” she captioned the post.

Billie Eilish cowrote the track with her brother Finneas, who also produced it. The siblings released the song as part of the official soundtrack to Greta Gerwig’s Barbie movie. Eilish hangs up miniature versions of some of her most memorable red carpet outfits in the self-directed music video.
“We made this song for Barbie, and it means the absolute worrrrllld to me. This movie is gonna change ur lives, and hopefully, the song will, too. Get ready to sob,” Eilish wrote on July 6, the song’s release date.
The ballad is one of many tracks Bailey has covered. In the past, she has shared her renditions of songs such as “Creep” by Radiohead, “Fix You” by Coldplay, “Rain” by SWV and “Love Is a Losing Game” by Amy Winehouse.
Bailey is teasing new music as part of her upcoming debut solo album. She said in the May issue of British Vogue that she has been spending her evenings working on her album in a small production room at Westlake Recording Studios in West Hollywood, California. Bailey cited jazz and grunge as some of the main influences for the project.
