Sony and pop singer Halsey has closed a deal for her life rights to be used to develop a film loosely based on her life that she would star in.
According to Deadline, who broke the news, the closest example of what they are going for is “a vehicle that does for her what 8 Mile did for Eminem.”
The trade publication also says that this came about from a meeting in which she presumably was considered for a film at the studio, and they decided to sculpt a vehicle for/about her instead.
The singer, whose real name is Ashley Nicolette Frangipane, is biracial (her father is black) and is openly vocal about it, including a buzzy 2015 New York Times feature in which she called herself tri-bi: “biracial, bisexual and bipolar.” She later walked back that statement and said she was tired of people on the internet calling her such. In the same interview, she debunked the idea that she is white-passing.
Before her vehicle, Halsey has at least one role set, a small appearance in A Star Is Born with Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga.
