The Showtime comedy pilot, How to Make Love to a Black Woman (Who May Be Working Through Some Sh*t), has made some additional casting announcements.

After Wednesday’s announcement that Kendrick Sampson and Carra Patterson had been cast as leads, Tony Award winner Tonya Pinkins, veteran actor and director Mario Van Peebles and newcomer Amandla Jahava have boarded the Lena Waithe-produced pilot.

The project arrived at the network from its first-look deal with Lena Waithe, who will executive produce. The series is created by Casallina “Cathy” Kisakye, who wrote the pilot. Rishi Rajan also executive produces. The pilot director is Naima Ramos Chapman.

Here’s the description: With each multi-part episode, How to Make Love to a Black Woman unfolds a new collection of characters in an authentic world, telling stories about connection and rejection that explore our most harrowing – and harrowingly comic – sexual secrets.

According to Variety, who broke the news of the trio’s casting, here are their character descriptions:  Van Peebles will play Sam, a kind stranger who connects with Rashida (Jahava), a young woman confronting an unexpected loss. Pinkins plays Rashida’s mother, Florence, who is keeping a secret from her daughter.

Van Peebles, who has a prolific career both in front of and behind the camera, most recently appeared on Z Nation and directed episodes of television’s Empire and Proven Innocent. He’s perhaps best known for starring in and directing New Jack City. Pinkins, who won a Tony for Jelly’s Last Jam, has a prolific career across the small screen, big screen and stage. She’s recently appeared in recurring roles on shows like, Fear the Walking Dead, Gotham, Madam Secretary and the upcoming Hulu series, Wu-Tang: An American Saga.
