Ice Cube has signed up to star in a crime thriller from Captivate Entertainment (producers of “Jason Bourne,” “The Bourne Legacy”) scripted by Josh Zetumer (“Patriots Day”).
No director is attached at this time to a project which is titled “Before I Disappear,” and centers on a clandestine high-tech version of the witness protection program, which makes clients disappear by offering them seamless exits into new lives.
Universal Pictures-based Captivate’s Ben Smith and Jeffrey Weiner are producing the project. Also on their upcoming slate is “The Janson Directive” (a potential franchise based on the bestselling novels of Robert Ludlum) with Dwayne Johnson attached to star.
Meanwhile, Cube, who, earlier this year, inked a partnership with Hong Kong-based media investment company AID Partners, via his Cube Vision production company, is currently developing “Ride Along 3,” and is attached to star in a hip-hop inspired Oliver Twist remake, and an untitled David O. Russell project. Cube Vision also has an overall deal with 20th Century Fox TV and Fox 21 TV Studios which was inked last fall.
He’s busy both in front of and behind the camera. Starring as an action hero in a thriller from the “Bourne” producers would be an interesting switch for him, given that he’s done mostly comedies in recent years.
