The people’s princess, Ice Spice, is the fan-voted best new artist.
On Tuesday, the Bronx native won a highly anticipated award at the 2023 MTV Video Music Award show. The VMA show gives fans a chance to vote for their favorite artist. The munchkins came through for the “Deli” artist, helping her win one of the most significant categories of the night.
The win touched Ice Spice, and she became visibly emotional as she walked on stage.
“Thank you so much. Thank you, MTV. Oh my God, this is so cool; I just want to thank my Munchkins. I love you guys so much,” she said tearfully.
“I want to thank my manager, James. I want to thank my producer, Riot, for making the best music with me. Shout out to all the other nominees in this category. I want to thank my label 10K and Capitol for always supporting me. And, of course, God. Without God, none of this would be possible,” she added.
She couldn’t end her special moment without giving love to her birthplace.
“Shout out the Bronx. Period!” she said.
Previous best new artist winners include Olivia Rodrigo, Alicia Keys, Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber, Cardi B and Billie Eilish, according to Daily Mail.
Ice Spice’s VMA look was inspired by Madonna’s VMA look in 1994, a play on her 80s “Like a Virgin” single. She wore a short ballerina-inspired tule white dress with long, sheer lacy sleeves and white tights to match. She wore pearl necklaces, a large cross and white heels to seal the deal.
