DeWanda Wise is taking on the worst imaginary friend imaginable in the upcoming Blumhouse horror film, Imaginary.

Blumhouse, who has been making waves with its recent films that played on childhood-based horrors like M3GAN and Five Nights at Freddy’s, is now making imaginary friends the next nightmare. In this film, Wise finds her stepdaughter befriending a teddy bear, but things turn for the worst.

According to the synopsis:

When Jessica (DeWanda Wise) moves back into her childhood home with her family, her youngest stepdaughter Alice (Pyper Braun) develops an eerie attachment to a stuffed bear named Chauncey she finds in the basement. Alice starts playing games with Chauncey that begin playful and become increasingly sinister.

As Alice’s behavior becomes more and more concerning, Jessica intervenes only to realize Chauncey is much more than the stuffed toy bear she believed him to be.

The film also stars Tom Payne, Taegen Burns, Veronica Falcon and Betty Buckley.

Imaginary is produced by Lionsgate, Blumhouse and Tower of Babble, along with Jason Blum and Jeff Wadlow.

Wadlow also directs and co-wrote the screenplay with Greg Erb and Jeason Oremland.

The film comes to theaters March 8, 2024.
