J.B. Smoove is highlighting the groundbreaking comedic talents who have paved the way for himself and others in the new Audible Original series Funny My Way.
In the 6-part docuseries, Smoove takes a look at the lives of six of the iconic Black comedians–Dick Gregory, Moms Mabley, Redd Foxx, Rudy Ray Moore, Flip Wilson and Paul Mooney–who pioneered the industry. The series features commentary about the daily struggles within the Black community and how the comedians fought for equality while being themselves. The series is described as giving “listeners an impactful look at comedic history that goes far beyond their punch lines.”

Funny My Way focuses on breaking boundaries in comedy and honors the Black comedy icons that shattered barriers by boldly defining themselves beyond the limitations of their time. Using interviews and archival clips from TV shows, comedy albums, and talk shows, our host, J.B. Smoove (Curb Your Enthusiasm), dives into the life and career of a different comedy icon each episode – reframing their accomplishments in terms of their continued relevance, their essential influence, and the fight for equal rights in the present day.Produced by Team Coco and AYR Media, this docu-series celebrates the lives and work of comedy greats, Dick Gregory, Redd Foxx, Moms Mabley, Flip Wilson, Rudy Ray Moore, and Paul Mooney, whose outsized influence is still seen in today’s most iconic Black comics.
