Previously reported: Does anyone remember Fox’s All-Black Thursday night lineup in the mid-90s? The programming, meant to cater to Black and Latino viewers at a time when many networks weren’t doing so, consisted of Martin, Living Single and a cop drama called New York Undercover. Well, word has come that a New York Undercover reboot might be on the horizon.
In an exclusive from Deadline, the word is floating around that ABC is looking to reboot the successful police drama. The reboot of the show is set to be written by Hand of God creator Ben Watkins.
For those unfamiliar, New York Undercover ran for four seasons from 1994 to 1998. The show starred Malik Yoba and Michael DeLorenzo as Det. J.C. Williams and Det. Eddie Torres, two police officers in New York City’s Fourth Precinct. Created by Law & Order scribe Dick Wolf, the show was the first cop drama on American television to have two people of color in leading roles. The show was also notable for its R&B/hip-hop musical guests and performances at the end of each episode. Word of a New York Undercover comes on the heels that a reboot of both Martin and Living Single are in the works.
