Jasmin Savoy Brown is joining the new ABC drama from Shondaland, For The People in a recast role. According to Deadline, Brown was cast after an extensive search for two vacant leads. After upfronts, two lead recastings were ordered. Brown is most known for her role in HBO’s The Leftovers. 

Robertson was recast in the first vacant role.

Described as a legal drama, here’s the show’s description: “Set in the Southern District of New York (SDNY) Federal Court, aka ‘The Mother Court,’ this legal drama follows brand new lawyers working on opposite sides — for both the defense and the prosecution as they handle the most high profile and high stakes cases in the country, all as their personal lives intersect.”

Brown will portray Allison, who is roommates with Sandra (Robertson). They were best friends in law school and now work together at the Federal Public Defender’s Office.

Allison was portrayed by Lyndon Smith in the pilot and Britne Oldford was Sandra.

When we first reported on For The People, we speculated that it may be set up as ABC’s replacement for Rhimes’ Scandal. It will remain as one of three Shonda shows on the network, as she is headed to Netflix for new programming as a part of a deal.
