black-ish star Jenifer Lewis is adding another role to her resume.
The iconic actress has been casting a key role for the upcoming Showtime series, I Love This For You.
Lewis’ role was initially played by Cybil Shepherd, who portrayed the character during the project’s pilot phase.
Led by Vanessa Bayer, the series also stars Molly Shannon, Paul James, Ayden Mayeri, Matt Rogers and Punam Patel.
As reported by Variety, the series is based on Bayer’s real-life childhood story of overcoming leukemia.
The publication states that it centers on, “Gold (Bayer) who dreams of becoming a host at a home-shopping channel. Working to shed her life-long label as ‘that cancer girl,’ she moves away from her parents, starts a budding romance for the first time in her adult life and forms a meaningful friendship with her idol Jackie (Shannon), all against the backdrop of a highly competitive workplace run by an unstable billionaire, where people play dirty to succeed.”
Lewis’ character will be Patricia described as the “icy” and “enigmatic” founder of a home shopping network.
Lewis, who will return for the final season of black-ish, also recently appeared in the Netflix holiday film, Dolly Parton’s Christmas on the Square.
The series was created by Bayer and Jeremy Beiler, who exec produce with Michael Showalter and Jessi Klein. The latter is also showrunner.
