Jesse Williams is one of the newest additions to the upcoming horror film Random Acts of Violence, written and directed by actor Jay Baruchel and writing partner Jesse Chabot. Williams will star alongside Baruchel, Jordana Brewster and Niamh Wilson. According to Deadline, production on the film, based on the comic book of the same name by Jimmy Palmiotti and Justin Gray, has already started in Toronto and will continue through September. Williams is also named as one of the film’s executive producers.
Deadline reports that the movie will follow comic book creator Todd Walkley (Williams), his assistant Aurora (Wilson), his girlfriend Kathy (Brewster) and Ezra (Baruchel), his friend and Hard Calibre Comics owner on a road trip from Toronto to New York for the annual New York Comic-Con.
“On their way from Toronto to New York for Comic-Con, bad things start to happen and people start getting killed in a fashion eerily similar to the kills portrayed in [Walkley’s] Slasherman comic,” states the site. “It becomes clear that a very avid fan is out there following them and hurting people, and using Todd’s comic as inspiration. As the bodies pile up, and Todd’s friends and family become targets and victims themselves, Todd will be forced into taking responsibility for everything his ideas have wrought.”
This isn’t Williams’ first foray into horror; in 2012, he starred in the horror hit The Cabin in the Woods as Holden, one of five friends who trek into the woods to get away from it all, only to have their cabin turn into a house of nightmares.
Williams is, of course, well known for his work on Shonda Rhimes’ hit ABC show Grey’s Anatomy as Dr. Jackson Avery, but when he’s not on television, Williams has been working on a slate of films, including the reboot of Jacob’s Ladder, Selah and The Spades and Team Joy. All three films are scheduled for 2019 releases.
Elevation Pictures will produce the film. No release date has been set.
