Jessica Williams will have several weddings to attend to come 2019. She’s tapped to star in Four Weddings and a Funeral, a Hulu anthology reboot series spearheaded by Mindy Kaling.
According to TV Line, Williams will join Nikesh Patel, John Reynolds and Rebecca Rittenhouse. Kaling will write the series along with Mindy Project co-executive producer Matt Warburton.
Jess will play Jess, who TV Line describes as “a young communications director for a New York senatorial campaign.” When Jess gets a wedding invitation from a college friend who is now in London, she and old friends drop everything to go to London. But, as the description states, “relationships are forged and broken, political scandals exposed, London social life lampooned, love affairs ignited and doused, and, of course, there are four weddings and a funeral.”
This sounds like a cool reboot of the original Four Weddings and a Funeral, starring Hugh Grant. The multicultural cast provides diversity, of course, but it also could give viewers an opportunity to watch people of color in situations that don’t rely on them being personifications of socially conscious statements on life.
The series will hit Hulu in 2019, but before that, you can catch Williams in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald when it comes to theaters November 16.
