In what is said to have been a competitive pursuit, Showtime will be home to a comedy project written by and starring Jessica Williams, directed by Jim Strouse.
Strouse directed Williams in Netflix’s The Incredible Jessica James (read our review here).
According to Deadline, who broke the news, “Williams and Strouse will write and executive produce the comedy, which tells the story of an African American aspiring science fiction writer (Williams) who comes of age in Brooklyn.”
The report also says that Megan Ellison’s Annapurna Pictures (Katheryn Bigelow’s Detroit, Barry Jenkins’ upcoming If Beale Street Could Talk) is also in negotiations to come about as a producer.
The Incredible Jessica James premeired at Sundance and debuted on Netflix recently to a warm reception.
