Veteran actor and Emmy winner Joe Morton has joined the CBS drama pilot, God Befriended Me.
The potential series is headlined by the breakout star of ABC’s The Mayor, Brandon Micheal Hall.
The series, described as a light drama, is from Warner Bros. Television and Greg Berlanti’s Berlanti Productions.
Its description: “God Befriended Me is described as a humorous, uplifting series, which explores questions of faith, existence, and science. It centers on Miles (Hall), an outspoken atheist whose life is turned upside down when he is “friended” by God on Facebook. Unwittingly, he becomes an agent of change in the lives and destinies of others around him.”
Suraj Sharma and Javicia Leslie have also been added as co-stars.
Morton’s character is Reverend Arthur Finer, who is Miles’ father. A thoughtful and intelligent man, Arthur Finer has been the Reverend of Trinity Church for the past 25 years. Although he doesn’t agree with his son’s strong rejection of his faith, he wants him back in his life.
The actor has portrayed Olivia Pope’s father on Scandal since 2013, recurring during seasons 2-4 and being a series regular since season 5. He’s the first Scandal actor to book a post-Scandal (which wraps up this spring) gig.
