With the Ta-Nehisi Coates-panned Superman film in development, John Boyega gave his opinions on who should play the new Man of Steel.

Boyega said during a Hollywood Reporter roundtable with Regé-Jean Page, Jonathan Majors, Josh O’Connor and Chris Rock that he wanted Page and Majors up for the role of Superman.

“I want brother Regé as Superman. Or Jonathan,” he said. “I want one of you guys to just go in there and fly. Just someone with knotted hair, fly.”

He also said he wanted to see O’Connor and Rock as villains in the movie doing “something really dark and messed up.”

Currently, Michael B. Jordan is the rumored frontrunner for Coates’ version of Superman, but he hasn’t been officially cast yet, meaning the role is still on the table for the right actor to come along. The script’s content is also still a mystery; comic book aficionados would know that there’s an alternate timeline Superman who actually is Black–a character named Calvin Ellis. But, as written by The Playlist, The Hollywood Reporter has found that the script will be about a brand new Superman unattached to any of the Snyderverse films or other DC cinematic universe films. Coates’ film might also be a period piece set in the 20th century, telling a new version of Kal-El’s descent to Earth.

In any event, both Majors and Page are hot tickets in Hollywood at the moment. Majors has recently signed onto Marvel’s cinematic universe as Kang the Conqueror. Also, even though Majors hasn’t appeared in Marvel’s currently-airing Disney+ series Loki, his name has been part of fans’ buzz about the show thanks to some theories about the series’ mysterious figures, the Time-Keepers.

Page, on the other hand, is still making waves from his Bridgerton role as Simon Basset, the Duke of Hastings, even though his time on the Netflix series has ended. Page’s popularity has propelled him to the top of the list of actors fans want to see play James Bond. He is also set to star in several films, including Dungeons and Dragons and The Gray Man.
