A sequel to the 2004 comedy film, Johnson Family Vacation, is in the works at Fox Searchlight.
Cedric the Entertainer, who starred in the first film, is already set to return. A director is not attached but Michael Elliot, who wrote Like Mike and Just Wright, will write the script. DeVon Franklin will produce the picture through his Franklin Entertainment production company. Cedric the Entertainer and Eric Rhone will produce through A Bird and A Bear Entertainment.
Here’s the description of the sequel: Johnson Family Celebration will pick up nearly two decades after the events of the original film, and will see the return of Cedric the Entertainer as Nate Johnson, the well-meaning patriarch of the Johnson family that embarked on an ill-fated cross-country road trip.
The initial film also starred Vanessa Williams, Solange Knowles, Bow Wow, Gabby Soleil, Shannon Elizabeth, Jason Momoa, Steve Harvey, Jennifer Freeman, DeRay Davis and Shari Headley. It is unknown at this point if any of the other stars will be returning, but it seems that it would be likely for several to do so.
The news of the sequel was first reported by The Hollywood Reporter.
